John Dean

About the Creator

John Dean has extensive senior leadership experience across Western Australia’s child welfare system, including Regional Director roles in the Goldfields, Great Southern, Kimberley, and North Metropolitan regions. He has led programs in partnership with Indigenous staff and communities across diverse regions. His work includes collaboration with the Institute for Child Health Research on the Rio Tinto Child Health Partnership and the Western Australian Child Health Survey, as well as senior policy roles within the Department of Premier and Cabinet. As Director of Life Without Barriers, Mr Dean oversaw service development for Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities across Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Guided by Indigenous mentors for over more than 20 years, Mr Dean brings a culturally informed, respectful approach to his work. He is an experienced trainer delivering education for Peer Supporters, Welfare Officers, and collegial support programs across the resources sector, first responders, and law enforcement in Australia and internationally and a strong advocate for Aboriginal voices.
